giulianelli tondo 2

Professor Roberto Giulianelli graduated in July 1990 in Medicine and Surgery from the La Sapienza University of Rome and in October 1994 he graduated from the Department of Urology "U. Bracci ”of the Policlinico Umberto I of the same University.

Since October 2018 he has been in charge of teaching at the School of Specialization in Urology of the Campus-Biomedico University of Rome.

He is the author of numerous scientific publications and presentations made both in national and international conferences.

He has organized numerous national conferences and specialization courses for urologists. With this in mind, it has been organizing for over seven years a highly specialized course for urologists entitled Male Lower Urinary tract symptoms and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and for three years a highly specialized course, always for urologists, entitled Non muscle invasive bladder cancer with the participation of national and international urologists.

He has participated as a teacher in numerous 1st and 2nd level masters in both Urology and Urogynecology.

He has received various scientific awards relating to national and international publications.

From 2010 to 2012 he was President of the Ur.O.P., the scientific company that brings together all urologists who work in private facilities accredited with the Italian National Health Service.

Always excellent and tireless popularizer, he has given birth to over one hundred training courses for general practitioners and has participated in various television programs where he has dealt with various urological issues.

Since 2012 he is the head of the Urology Complex Unit (UOC) of the Nuova Villa Claudia clinic located in Rome, where with his staff consisting of nine Urologists he carries out both hospitalization on account of  the Italian National Health Serviceand and private activities.

The center directed by Professor Giulianelli has been a highly specialized structure since 2012 for the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies of the lower urinary tract (LUTS) and since 2017 it has been identified by the Lazio Region as a reference center for the diagnosis and therapy of cancer of the prostate.

In addition to assisting the numerous patients who have turned to him over the years, he has always dedicated himself to deepening and improving, for the various diseases that affect the male and female urinary system, both the investigation methods and pharmacological therapeutic protocols along with surgical intervention technologies. In this way, Professor Roberto Giulianelli has always had two reference criteria: therapeutic efficacy and improving patients quality of life.

In particular, as far as prostate pathologies are concerned, Professor Roberto Giulianelli, with the active and enthusiastic collaboration of his team, has contributed to the development and diffusion of some operating techniques that allow to treat these clinical conditions in a minimally invasive still decisive way.

In fact, the first in the world, he has experimented and published in magazines of great international impact an innovative endoscopic, minimally invasive technique, which allows to treat any condition of increase in volume of the prostate gland, which determines difficulties in normal urination. The acronym for this technique is B-TUEP: enucleation and removal of the prostate adenoma with the use of a bipolar electrode. For those interested, it is possible, by visiting this site, to learn more about the features and potential of this technique under Technologies link in the main menu at the top.

As regards bladder pathologies, professor Giulianelli has developed a technique for removing bladder neoformations, the so-called en bloc resection (e-ETURBT), which allows a complete and radical removal of the neoplasm present inside the bladder, thus allowing , to the anatomopathologist, to be able, in a more complete way, to evaluate the depth of the disease, significantly improving the subsequent course (outcome) and reducing the risk of both recurrence and progression. For those interested, you can read more on the site under Technologies link on top.

Through a path of multi-year experiences he has acquired an excellent command in the use of these techniques that make it possible to greatly reduce the discomfort for the patient, minimizing the period of hospitalization and allowing, with some caution, the return to usual daily life in very little time.

Central in this case, but as in all of Medicine, is the correct clinical framework to which the patient must undergo, which must be complete and respectful of the indications suggested by both national and international guidelines, as well as integrated by personal experiences. These are aspects that Professor Giulianelli and his staff take care of in a maniacal way, so much so that, for example, they were among the first to use Fusion technique biopsy in the diagnosis of prostate cancer, where the imaging coming from the sequences obtained by multi-parameter MRI of the prostate blends with that of dedicated ultrasound machines, significantly increasing the ability to identify otherwise unacknowledged prostate neoplasms. As well as the standardized use of the urodynamic examination both in the management of patients with bladder catheters for episodes of acute urine retention secondary to probable cervico-urethral obstruction, in order to evaluate the real condition of the bladder muscle, the detrusor, and in patients of both sexes with urinary incontinence problems. In the latter group of patients, the team coordinated by Professor Giulianelli has been using specialized ultrasound examinations for years to evaluate the causes, thus avoiding the patient's exposure to radiation.

The message that Professor Giulianelli is keen to pass on is that men should learn from women common sense to take care of their urological health, not only in adulthood, but from a young age, by being assisted, also with a view to prevention , by a trusted Urologist. This is because urological health involves various aspects in addition to those discussed above, from issues relating to fertility, disorders of the sexual sphere (premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction), infections (prostatitis, urinary infections), continence disorders and, last but not least , to stones. All these pathologies, sometimes neglected or unknown, can significantly affect the relationship life of those who suffer from them.
